1. Create QB Files

Overview

Summary Information

Check that the Summary Information is filled out and correct. We will be doing this for each of the files created. You should do this immediately after opening a new file.

Summary Information should contain:

    • Number
      • Use part number
    • Follow This Format
      • Description
        • Product Type, Protection, Torque, Core Assembly, Slots, Diameter, Face Width, Shell Face, Electrical Connection, Mounts
          • Example of description: Powered Pulley, IP69k, 10Nm (7.4 ft/lbs), Single Core: 150mm (5.9″), 12N/14P, G2, 081mm (3.2″), 400MM (15.7″), Square Drive, IP69k-Junction Box, Two Flats (20mm)
    • Material
      • Enter material
    • Finish
      • Enter finish type. If no finish, enter “N/A”
    • Drawn By
      • Enter your name
    • Drawn Date
      • Enter today’s date
    • Weight
      • Select, “Mass”

Once all info has been entered in, click “OK”.

Create .SLDPRT File

  1. Open Solidworks
  2. Find Product Number & Open .SLDASM file
  3. Make sure you are in Evaluate tab
  4. Select a component
    1. select material
      1. Choose the correct material
        1. Do this for each component
  5. Hide Components
    1. Select material
      1. Choose correct material
        1. Do this for each component
  6. Review
  7. Go to Assembly tab
    1.  Click, “Show Hidden Components”
    2. Highlight all components
      1. Make sure “Show Hidden Envelopes” is checked
    3. Review
    4. If all looks correct, click, “Exit Show-Hidden”
  8. Go to “Evaluate” tab
    1. Click, “Mass Properties”
      1. Review & exit
  9. File > Save As
    1. Save as type:
      1. .SLDPRT
    2. File Name:
      1. Should be part number
    3. File should be saved under:
      1. Product Type > Size > PN > Shell and Layout
      2. Example:
        1. Powered Pulleys > 165mm > OD69-80-165-710-10467
    4. “Exterior Faces” should be checked
  10. Save!

Create .STEP File

  • Open .SLDPRT file
  • Go to Features tab
    • Right click shell surface
      • Select hide
    • Rotate pulley so that you can see internals
  • Go to Direct Editing tab
    • Click Delete/Keep Body
    • Use cursor to select non pertinent internals
    • Click green check mark to delete “bodies”
  • Go back to Features tab
    • Click Surface bodies
      • Select the surface
        • Likely labeled surface 1
      • Right click > Show
    • Make sure it looks correct
      • Should have metallic look
  • Click Save button, then
  • File > Save As > .step
    • Save under:
      • Type > Diameter > PN > Shell and Layout 
        • e.g., Powered Pulley > 165mm > OD69-40-165-210-10677 > Shell and Layout
    • Save as Part Number Shell
      • e.g., OD69-40-165-210-10677 Shell.STEP

Create Layout

  • Open .sldasm
  • File > Make Drawing From Assembly> Select ONE MOTION – CUSTOMER A LANDSCAPE
  • Select “Current Model View” & drag to layout
  • There should be 3 versions of the motor
    • Laying flat, left to right
    • Laying so that the junction box is facing you
    • Another catti-corner in top right
  • Size should be 1:5
  • Properly position each motor image on the page
  • Change catti-corner motor to 1:10 size
  • Make sure the display shows the material
    • Click the cube icon
    • Top option
  • Draw all required Dimensions
    • Add leaders
    • Reposition if needed
  • Add details to bottom left corner
    • Font: Century Gothic, size 10, 2.65mm
    • Use This Format:

Mounting Distances
Min – XX.Xmm(XX.Xin)
Max – XX.Xmm(XX.Xin)

Electrical
XXXX

IP Rating
XXXX

(The headers should be underlined)

  • Make sure the bottom right has:
    • Correct Part Number
    • Drawn Name & Date
    • Material
    • Title has correct product description
    • One Motion Logo
    • Correct Scale (1:5) 
  • Save as:
    • Part Number Layout.pdf
    • Part Number Layout.drw

Check Lists

Bottom Left Checklist:

  • Century Gothic, font 10 used on layout
  • Included Min & Max Mounting distances
  • Included Electrical
  • Included Face
  • Included IP Rating

Bottom Right Checklist:

  • Correct Part Number
  • Title has correct description
  • Included drawn by “name” and “date”
  • Logo added
  • Scale (should be 1:5)
  • Correct Weight added
  • Material added
  • Finish added (NONE if not applicable)

Final Review

  • Each Component Material Selected for Each File
  • Final Saved Version of Each File Shows Metallic Look (not just drawing outlines)
  • Non Pertinent Internals Deleted from .STEP file
  • Layout Saved as Both .pdf & .drw
  • Century Gothic, font 10 used on layout
  • All data entered in bottom right & left corners of layout (including logo)
  • The junction box shows the updated version (no screws)
