One Motion Powered Products provide the same benefits as Servo Systems for Belt Control. Conveyor control is velocity and timing control, One Motion has better acceleration and deceleration properties than a traditional servo system. We are able to meet most of your servo replacement needs with our sensor less magnetic direct drives.

 

  • Acceleration, High Pole Count Outer Magnetic Ring is driven be an internal stator. Power is directly applied to the outer ring and motion is produced. Typical servo system spins a small rotor driving a gear reduction, you have to wait for the rotor to spin up before motion is produced. This is similar to a turbo driven engine , the turbos have to spin up before the power is applied.
  • Registration, One Motion products are synchronous with very precise speed control. The control of flexible webs in registration is very precise.

A traditional motor requires oil for all of the rotating components. This presents a clear disadvantage for the food packaging industry where even a small oil leak can completely pause production.

Reliability

Perhaps the biggest drawback to using a traditional motor is the reliability. A traditional set up requires a gear box, a secondary pulley, speed reducer, chain, and several other components. Naturally, the more components needed to drive a belt increases the likelihood of parts wearing down and needing replaced. This is especially true on food production lines where wash-downs happen more regularly.

Cost

The initial costs for a traditional motor can be lower than specialty motors. Unfortunately, the reliability issues mentioned above means that an OEM can expect to be replacing motors every 12 – 18 months depending on usage.

Using smart conveying technology, all One Motion products give OEM’s the ability to drive a belt with complete control over speed and precision without the use of a motor. By eliminating the need for a motor, One Motion products work without the use of oil (either externally or internally).

Unlike external motors, One Motion products have no nooks and crannies where bacteria can harbor.

Reliability

Where the One Motion line of products really stands out is in reliability. By using 97% fewer rotating components than a traditional motor, One Motion products can endure much longer use and come with an industry leading 3 year warranty.

No special electronics are needed to operate the smart conveying belt drives. The method in which the direct-drive is powered allows for the belt to be conveyed at different speeds.

Making the move to a hygienic operation has traditionally been met with higher initial purchase costs of the motor and special electronics. When it comes to hygiene, the Drum Motor doesn’t disappoint! With no external components, it eliminates bacterial build-up areas. The motor is completely concealed, making it safe for operators and wash-down friendly.

Reliability

While the Drum Motor is certainly hygienic and eliminates an external motor, it still uses an internal motor, gear drive and other moving parts. This means there are still several rotating components that are likely to wear down in time.

Cost

The initial cost of  a Drum Motor may be higher than a conventional set up, but an OEM can expect to see that cost returned over time as the Drum is much more efficient. However, because it still requires an internal motor and a number of other rotating drive components, the efficiency levels are still below what can be achieved through smart conveying (or the use of magnets) and will need to be replaced/repaired with near the same frequency as a traditional motor.
